My tiny house has been getting a new facelift over

My tiny house has been getting a new facelift over the last few weeks! So much work. Thankful for my dad who has spent many days over here helping me get it done, despite the extreme California heat. I decided on T1-11 panels with an abundance of heavy duty caulking and paint to hopefully avoid the leaking issues I had with the old lap siding. More pics to come. ☺️

Can you spot the tiny house? 😊 This is where it’s parked now days. My daughter’s enjoying the space now, which works out perfectly since rentals in California are pretty high. I always love visiting her and reminiscing about the three years we lived in the tiny house together. I think of life as “before building the tiny house” and “after building the tiny house”. It’s one of the best decisions I ever made!

I've recently merged families with my fiance, Marc (there's four of us now!) and we needed a bit more space than my tiny house could offer. In June 2020, we purchased a small fixer upper in Sacramento County and we've been doing renovations ever since with many more on the horizon. My tiny house is now nestled into our backyard. I work from home and enjoy being crafty so I've been doing some slight alterations to the tiny house living room to convert it into a creative work space. My view from the couch, which I never posted a photo of but really isn’t that exciting cause I went for comfort instead of aesthetic. 🙂 I promise to post a photo soon but the house is kinda torn apart because..... WE’RE MOVING! I recently bought a fixer home in the Sacramento area and I’m moving the tiny house to the new property. I’ve also recently gotten engaged 🥰 and my daughter Katie, myself, my fiancé Marc, and his son Machai are all moving in together in the new house. Since there’s no way I wanna get rid of my tiny house, we made sure the property we chose had RV access and space in the yard to park it. So over the coming weeks/months, we’ll be prepping the tiny house as an airbnb and space for family to stay when they visit. LOTS of changes over here so I wanted to post an update. Homeownership is no joke! Found some black mold on the inside of my wall and after investigating, decided it was necessary to open the wall from outside and cut out some of the OSB. Reeled my dad in for this project, too. So thankful for the quality time spent on construction projects with him lately. ❤️ We didn’t find a plumbing leak but found evidence of a leak in the window so we replaced it and sealed everything back up. Hopefully we took care of the issue! 🤞🏻

I’d been looking for just the right cabinet for this corner since I wasn’t using the standing desk as much as I thought I would and I needed a place for linens. The perfect solution was a father/daughter project to build one from scratch, exactly how I wanted it. I’m so happy with how it turned out! Notice, you can see the square leaded glass we used for the door on the top shelf in the before photo (swipe). It used to just be a decoration but now it’s useful AND pretty. 😊

We’re in that in-between-seasons phase when you can’t decide if you need the AC on or the heater. It’s been too cold downstairs and too hot upstairs without either. I remember finding the perfect setup last year though and I’ll likely scroll back through my posts after sharing this to find out what it was. It’s so neat to have lived in this house now for multiple years and to settle into yearly routines and traditions. I already started costume gathering/making for a Renaissance Faire we went to last weekend and thrifted my daughter’s Halloween costume already as well. A blink and I’ll be pulling out the Christmas decorations. 🥰

I’ve been using The KonMari Method for years now and it’s made tiny living so much more enjoyable for me. I’m not a minimalist (I do love my collections) but making sure everything I own is something that brings me joy has been the perfect way to naturally pair down my belongings without any heartache. Being intentional about my things and where I store them is really fun for me and I even love cleaning and organizing now, especially because it doesn’t take very long and results in a peaceful environment for us to spend our time in. #notanad

A lot of changes are happening over here. My daughter started her Junior year of high school, she’s driving, and she picked up an awesome first job. This translates to me having the house to myself most of the time. Although it’s quiet and can feel lonely at times, it’s been a smooth transition and feels really natural. Being a young mom, I’ve never experienced adulthood without Katie. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed raising her and now I’m starting to find myself with more time to foster other relationships and pursue hobbies. I have some dreams and goals I’d like to accomplish before she reaches 18, so I’ve been putting my mind to it and can’t wait for the next chapter. Here’s to two more years before we both venture out on our own!

We’ve been living in my tiny house for over two years now - four years since I started building. Looking back, I can see all the positive changes since then and it’s overwhelming in the best way. A huge weight lifted off my shoulders through the process and I feel so much peace and freedom in my life. Following through with a dream like this helped me gain a self-appreciation I didn’t have before and it’s given me the confidence and motivation to pursue other adventures in my life. It wasn’t easy, but it was all worth it. 💛
